On Tuesday, March 12th Irish Restaurant Awards revealed that the Half Barrel had been nominated in the 2024 Irish Restaurant Awards. The Whitegate-based restaurant is nominated in two categories: Best Casual Dining and Best Gastro Pub.
For the dedicated staff of the Half Barrel, this momentous achievement in being nominated in two categories serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment to culinary excellence and unparalleled hospitality. Each member of the team, from the passionate chefs to the attentive servers, has played an integral role in securing these nominations.
The Munster Regional Awards will take place on Wednesday, 27th of March in the Great Southern Hotel in Kilkenny. Here both county and provincial winners will be chosen based on the nominees. The winners in each category will then go on to attend the All Ireland Awards Gala Dinner held in May.
What The Judges Are Looking For
In the category of Best Casual Dining, the judges are on the search for the best casual dining establishment offering top-quality food, great customer service and genuine hospitality. The judges are prioritising the overall atmosphere, seeking a relaxed and informal vibe. The decor should complement the style of food served, creating a cohesive experience. Additionally, judges are looking for a welcoming culture among staff, where there's a genuine passion for hospitality.
In the category of Best Gastro Pub, the award recognises the gastro pub that offers an innovative menu of food which suitably complements their drink selection. The Best Gastropub will provide restaurant-quality dining, whilst not compromising on the traditional ‘pub’ atmosphere.
The Half Barrel
As a cosy pub, The Half Barrel promises a delightful respite, whether you seek a refreshing drink or a hearty and delicious meal. The addition of regular live music performances adds an extra layer of charm to The Half Barrel, transforming it from a dining destination into a cultural hub where music lovers gather to share in the magic of live performances.
Last summer marked an exciting chapter for The Half Barrel as it welcomed new management following the retirement of its previous stewards. Under the capable leadership of Patrick O’Connor and his dedicated team, the restaurant has flourished, achieving new heights of success. These prestigious nominations serve as a heartfelt tribute to the collective efforts of all those who contribute to The Half Barrel's legacy, reaffirming its status as an iconic venue beloved by all in East Clare.
Tourism East Clare would like to wish the Half Barrel continued success, and the best of luck in the Munster Regional Awards taking place later this month.
